To the best of my recollection (1930s to 1950s) there was not a market as such in Bournemouth Road. However, there were a couple of stalls at the Rye Lane end of the road, one of which was a farm stall run by people called Taylor. There was also a gent who sold drawing pins, shoe laces and matches from a tray that was hung around his neck rather like the ice cream vendors in the cinemas of that era and he had been on that spot for years.
The Peckham Society is the amenity society for Peckham and Nunhead, SE15. It exists to encourage interest in and to care for the surrounding area.
